Stories For Kids Bible: The Parables from Luke 15

In the Bible, the book of Luke is a treasure trove of stories that teach us important lessons about love, forgiveness, and the boundless grace of God. One of the most beloved chapters is Luke 15, where Jesus shares three powerful parables: the Parable of the Lost Sheep, the Parable of the Lost Coin, and the Parable of the Prodigal Son. These stories are not just for adults; they are perfect for kids too, as they remind us that everyone is precious and that God always welcomes us back with open arms.

The Parable of the Lost Sheep

Stories For Kids Bible: The Parables from Luke 15

Imagine a shepherd with a hundred sheep. Each sheep is important, but one day, the shepherd realizes that one sheep is missing. What does he do? Does he say, “Oh well, it’s just one sheep”? No! He leaves the ninety-nine sheep in the wilderness and goes to search for the lost one. He looks high and low, through valleys and mountains, until he finds the lost sheep. When he does, he is so happy that he carries the sheep back on his shoulders, rejoicing. Then he calls his friends and neighbors, saying, “Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost!”

This story teaches us that every single one of us is important to God. Just like the shepherd who didn’t give up on the lost sheep, God never gives up on us. No matter how far we wander, God is always searching for us, ready to welcome us back with love and joy.

The Parable of the Lost Coin

Next, Jesus tells the story of a woman who has ten silver coins. These coins are very precious to her, but one day, she discovers that one coin is missing. She lights a lamp, sweeps the house, and searches carefully until she finds it. When she does, she is so happy that she calls her friends and neighbors, saying, “Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.”

This parable is similar to the story of the lost sheep, but it emphasizes the value of each person. The woman didn’t have many coins, but each one was important. In the same way, God values each of us. We might feel small or insignificant, but to God, we are precious. God is always searching for us, just like the woman searched for her lost coin. When we return to Him, He is overjoyed.

The Parable of the Prodigal Son

The final parable in Luke 15 is one of the most famous stories in the Bible. It’s about a young man who asks his father for his share of the inheritance. The father gives it to him, and the young man leaves home to live a wild and wasteful life. He spends all his money and ends up in a faraway country, with nothing left. He is so hungry that he has to feed pigs, which was considered a very low job.

At his lowest point, the young man realizes how foolish he has been. He decides to go back to his father and ask for forgiveness. He practices what he will say: “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.”

When he returns, his father sees him from a distance and runs to meet him. The father doesn’t wait for the young man to explain or apologize. He embraces him, puts a robe on him, and throws a big celebration. The father says, “This son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.”

This story shows us the incredible love and forgiveness of God. No matter how far we’ve gone or how much we’ve messed up, God is always ready to welcome us back. His love is unconditional, and He celebrates when we return to Him.

A Message of Hope and Love

The parables in Luke 15 remind us that we are all loved by God. Whether we feel like a lost sheep, a lost coin, or a prodigal son, God is always searching for us. He wants us to know that we are precious, and He is always ready to forgive and welcome us back.

These stories are perfect for kids because they teach important lessons in a simple and beautiful way. They remind us that we are never too far gone, and that God’s love is always there for us.
