Once upon a time, in the land of Canaan, there was a great city called Jericho. It was surrounded by strong walls that seemed impossible to break down. The people who lived in Jericho were afraid of the Israelites, who were led by a man named Joshua. Joshua was a brave leader, chosen by God to guide his people into the Promised Land.
As the Israelites approached Jericho, Joshua knew that they needed a miracle to conquer the city. He prayed to God, asking for guidance and strength. God answered Joshua’s prayer and gave him a plan. He told Joshua to have the Israelite army march around the city once every day for six days. On the seventh day, they were to march around the city seven times, and then the priests were to blow their trumpets. When the people heard the sound of the trumpets, they were to shout with all their might.
Joshua gathered his people and explained the plan. Some of them were skeptical. How could marching around the city and blowing trumpets bring down the walls? But Joshua had faith in God’s promise. He knew that if they followed God’s instructions, they would succeed.
So, on the first day, the Israelite army marched around Jericho once. They were quiet and solemn, carrying the Ark of the Covenant, which was a special chest that held the Ten Commandments. The people of Jericho watched from the walls, laughing and mocking the Israelites. But Joshua and his people did not let their words bother them. They trusted in God’s plan.
For six days, the Israelites marched around the city, once each day. On the seventh day, they woke up early and began their march. This time, they marched around the city seven times. The people were tired, but they kept going, knowing that this was the day God had promised them victory.
As they completed their seventh circuit around Jericho, the priests blew their trumpets. The sound was loud and powerful, echoing through the air. Joshua then commanded the people to shout. With one voice, the Israelites let out a mighty roar. And in that moment, something incredible happened. The walls of Jericho began to shake and crumble. Stones tumbled down, and the once-impenetrable walls collapsed into a heap.
The Israelites cheered and rushed into the city. With God’s help, they had conquered Jericho. They followed God’s instructions and destroyed the city, just as they had been told. But they spared Rahab, a woman who had helped them by hiding their spies. Rahab and her family were allowed to live because she had shown kindness to God’s people.
The story of the Fall of Jericho is a powerful reminder of the importance of faith and obedience. When we trust in God and follow His plan, even the most impossible challenges can be overcome. The Israelites did not succeed because of their own strength, but because they relied on God’s power.
